Twist Interview with Just Kait
Hola TWIST Chicas!
We recently got the chance to have a little girl bonding with Just Kait- singer, songwriter and musician. This girl knows how to rock (maybe even better than the boys- he he)! And we think MTV agrees- they named her song “Sick” as their Download and Discover pick. That’s pretty awesome. Read TWIST’s exclusive interview with her to hear all about her upcoming tour with Honor Society, her own personal prince charming, and her love for Converse sneakers. TWIST: Hey Kait! Tell us how you come up with the stage name “Just Kait”?
Just Kait: Basically, on my album I play guitar, bass, and drums. I sing all the songs and do some of my own back up vocals. So between all of that and the fact that I’m a girl and I actually play a bunch of instruments, it just kind of happened. It’s just me on the record. And plus, I like to be myself; I don’t like to act like anyone else.
TWIST: Your song “Sick” was chosen as MTV’s Discover and Download pick. What was it like when that happened and how did it feel knowing other singers like Leona Lewis and Flo Rida were also Discover and Downloads?
Just Kait: It was really crazy because like you said you see all your favorite artists were Discover and Downloads. The fact that I was put in that same spot with a bunch of people I look up to and listened to, it’s exciting cause I’ve never done anything crazy like so many artists. It was one of the first big things that happened to me so it was really crazy.
TWIST: You go on tour with Honor Society soon. What are you most excited for about that?
Just Kait: I’m excited to meet all these kids that keep talking to me on Twitter and stuff! It’s crazy. But also, I’ve only played a couple gigs on the East Coast, so to actually travel around the country, even go to Canada, it will be really exciting to just see the places that I will be going.
TWIST: Let’s talk boys! Have you ever had a guy treat you like a princess?
Just Kait: Yes. I do right now. He’s really sweet. He bought me a promise ring. We’ve been together for like three years so he’s just really sweet and surprises me. He’ll get me roses for our anniversaries. I don’t expect roses, but the fact that he just goes out of his way to do that is sweet. And he’s always busy working too, but he always seems to find a way to make me first.
TWIST: We love your style. What is one thing you think every girl should have in her closet?
Just Kait: Probably just a pair of Converse. I think Converse are sick because now you can custom-make them however you want. Just a cool pair of shoes. I’m really big into shoes. I have Nikes, and Vans, and of course Converse. I’m more focused on my shoes when I pick out my outfits. My outfits are based on my shoes typically.
TWIST: Do you have any true confessions, those quirky or weird things that make you who you are?
Just Kait: OK, so when I eat French fries, I take the ends off of my French fries. I don’t know why. Whether they are soft, or crunchy, and I really hate the pointy ones, but I always take them off. My mom does it, my little brother is doing it now, so I think it’s just something in the family.
